"SSBBW's give the best Hugs...they really feel so...hugged." ~ Mike [FA]

Health at Every Size - these are the buzz words around the internet these days. Are you healthy? Do you want to be healthier?

What is health? The World Health Organization defined health in its broader sense in 1946 as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". Being healthier doesn't mean losing weight. To you it might mean:

We are very happy to announce that we have a Registered Dietician on staff who will be writing our Health At Every Size series as well as answering a reader's question each month. Unlock YOUR irresistibility without spending a dime! [Part 1]

Society has made us believe that we can only be irresistible if we wear makeup. [Doesn't matter if the stuff ages the skin...]

Or if we're a size 0 to 4. [Skinny beats healthy any day!]

Or if we dress according to the latest fashion. [Who cares if you feel like a squeezed anchovy in what you're wearing???]

And you know what? Society has to make you believe those things otherwise where would the $$$ come from?

But the truth is, being irresistible has nothing to do with your weight, your looks, your clothes, and all the bling-bling.

To unlock your irresistible potential, you just need to be YOU. And the following two tips will show you how.

Tip # 1: Remember that you are not your mind.

Yes, you have a mind. But that's not who you are.

Because, most of the time, our mind isn't supportive of our accomplishments. Instead, it will highlight all the mistakes we've made in the past. Or our 'flaws'.

Here are a few 'mind chatter' experiences that patients have shared with me:

The truth is that none of the above is true. That's just mind chatter. However, unless you acknowledge that you are not your mind, you will believe these to be true.

And that's really sad because thinking poorly of yourself will reflect on how you act, talk, and on your overall body language. And this will impact how others see you. Not to mention that it's likely to zap your productivity by making you believe that you don't have what it takes to achieve your goals.

Your action plan:

Whenever the voice in your head starts acting up, tell it to shut up and practice the following tip.

Tip # 2: Be fully present in whatever you're doing

Translation: When you're doing something or talking to someone, focus completely on that thing or person.

Don't think about your to-do list(s), what to cook for dinner, or what you'll wear for that event you're attending later today.

And avoid going on mental vacations where you talk to yourself.

Wondering how this affects your irresistibility?

Well, let me ask you two things:

  1. How would you feel if, while talking to Jane, you realize that she has spaced out? Would you keep finding her interesting?

    Probably not.

Now imagine you're the one who spaced out. Wouldn't that drastically reduce how Jane perceives you?

Let's reverse the situation. You're talking to Susan and she is totally focused on what you're saying. Wouldn't you enjoy talking to Susan more? In other words, wouldn't Susan be more captivating than Jane?

  2. Now, let's say you've decided to write a blog post or finish a report. And at some point, you started thinking about where to go for dinner later. Half an hour later, you realize that you're nowhere near completing that blog post. And you still have no idea about where you want to have dinner. How would that make you feel?

Like a 'failure' maybe? Or angry at your 'inability to get things done'?

In other words, you'll fuel those mind talks and wandering thoughts. And you'll belittle yourself.

  3. Your action plan:

Actively engage your mind, body, and soul in the moment. It doesn't matter what you're doing: just give your full, undivided attention to whatever or whoever is in front of you.

In the next issue, I'll cover two more tips that will help you feel at home in your own body.
