Self Acceptance and Society/Fat Acceptance

Self acceptance is loving and appreciating yourself even if there are things you'd eventually like to change. Fat acceptance or society acceptance is getting society as a whole to accept that we have the same rights as everyone else and to reduce prejudice within the community.

Time to Set Back-to-School Goals

Kids of all ages-from kindergarten to college-are headed back to school this month and with that comes a mountain of parent prep. Whether it's purchasing new school clothes, books and binders or lunch boxes and snacks, getting ready of a new school year can be daunting and exciting. It's that approach we should take with setting some back-to-school goals of our own.

As long as you're getting the kids some new clothes, how about a new outfit for you? You deserve it! If you want a new suit for work or a new workout ensemble to hit the treadmill when the kiddos head off to the school bus, you deserve it! It's just one of the many ways you can honor the "getting ready for school" process.

If, like me, you've got a fussy eater who wouldn't be seen within 50 feet of a school cafeteria line, think about prepping your own healthy and yummy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Break out the slower cooker (or these days the pressure cooker) and get to menu planning. It will ease your day and your life.

You can really go big with the back to school mode and do something as simple as crack open a book you've been wanting to read all summer and just haven't gotten around to doing yet-or something as big as enroll in college classes or volunteer to help out your local school or library.

Just because the kids are going back to school doesn't mean you can't do something really spectacular and honor yourself by doing something totally terrific for yourself. Here's wishing you and your kiddos-and you-a great transition from summer to learning!
