Hairstyles for Summer

Summer is in here, and for most of us that means sweltering temperatures. If you're anything like me halfway through summer you contemplate making the big chop in an effort to beat the heat. After years of sweating and struggling with thick, heavy hair in the summertime, I finally did it. I said goodbye to tension headaches from ponytails and a constantly sweaty neck and cut my waist length hair into a pixie. At first, I worried if it would be flattering on my rather round face, but the minute my hair stylist spun me around I knew I had made the right choice. If you're debating on a shorter style for summer here are three ideas for a little inspiration.

The pixie is a timeless classic that everyone from Danielle Brooks to Viola Davis has rocked at some point in time; so why shouldn't you be next? It works for every hair type, from fine and straight to thick and curly. It's a flattering and chic way to keep cool this summer and show off your beautiful face.
For those of you who want to go shorter but can quite bring yourself to go all the way to a pixie, the bob is a wonderful compromise. The bob is another wonderfully versatile haircut that works for all hair types and can even be left a little longer if you aren't ready to give up your ponytail. A word of advice to my fellow curly girls; ask your styles for a few layers throughout to break up the style a little, or else those lovely curls might end up looking a little like a triangle.
The undercut is the 2010s “business in the front, party in the back” hair style and unlike its early 90s counterpart, the mullet, it's pretty darn stylish. This is the perfect haircut for someone who hates neck sweat but doesn't want to part with his or her long tresses. Simply shaving a few lower layers of hair close to the scalp keeps your neck cool but allows you to keep your hair long and nobody is the wiser; until you pull your hair up. If you're feeling especially daring you can request that your stylist shave a design into your undercut, making the style pop even more when you decide to rock a ponytail.

As a plus size woman my first concern when I get a new haircut, especially a short one, is if it will be flattering to my face shape. And I know I'm not alone in that consideration. But as I've started to experiment more with my personal style I've started to care less and less about the traditional rules for plus size girls when it comes to fashion and hair. We don't need rules. We need to show off and be fashionable and command attention when we go out. We need to wear the crop tops and the short hair cuts. If you've been hesitant about going shorter for the summer, don't be. Be bold. Cut that hair. Show off that pretty face and that gorgeous smile. Enjoy your summer with a little less sweat and a lot more confidence.

Fat Positive Blogs

Blogs are a wonderful source of information. I have found them to be a useful Fat resource, especially when it comes to body positivity and fatshion. It is so helpful to see what clothes look like on bodies that are shaped like ours. It is also helpful to know that there are others out there who have the same life struggles that we have. You might get a different perspective on how to deal with things, based on the experiences of others.

I recently joined a group of plus size bloggers. We are taking one fashion topic a month and doing a blog hop. Our first topic was leggings. We all did a blog about it, linked our blogs, and published them at the same time. It is so great to see the many different ways an item can be worn on a fat person, from smaller plus to super plus.

Here is a link to my blog. In it, you will find the links to all the other blogs.
