Managing the Heat
It's time for Canada Day and/or Independence Day and for most of us that means attending different celebrations. Some of them outside. Where it is almost guaranteed to be hot. As a chubby girl, heat is probably my main nemesis. There is sweat and all the wonderful odors that go with it, thigh chafe, and my makeup always seems to melt off my face. And since I'm also very pale, I generally look like a tomato after 30 minutes in direct sunlight. After much trial and error, I have assembled a small arsenal of products that are essential if I'm going to spend anytime outside in the summer, and now I want to share them with you.
1. Lush Silky Underwear Dusting Powder - $14
This is the dusting powder that will make you want to kiss baby powder goodbye. It has a cornstarch and kaolin base, but it also contains shavings of cocoa butter to keep skin soft. It does have a very noticeable jasmine scent, which may be a deal breaker if you are sensitive to floral scents. I dust this on the back of my neck keep it dry and keep my hair from sticking to it. I also dust my bra cups with it before putting on my bra, because under boob sweat is the absolute worst.
2. Flower Beauty Seal the Deal Long Lasting Setting Spray - $10.99
In the battle to keep my makeup on my face during the summer I have tried out my fair share of setting sprays; everything from M.A.C. to Urban Decay. This setting spray from Flower Beauty is by far the best that I've found. The bottle has a very fine mist and the spray keeps my makeup securely in place, not matter how much I'm sweaty.
3. Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Chafe Stick - $14
You know the saying, "Thick thighs save lives"? If that's true, my thighs could probably save a dozen men. Easily. The downside to all this life saving power is chafe. So much chafe. The kind of chafe that could spark a forest fire. This chafe stick is my personal thigh saver. It's formulated with aloe and vitamin E which creates a barrier to prevent friction and keep thighs cool while you move.
4. Missha All Around Safe Block Essence Sun SPF 45 - $14
Missha makes most of my favorite skin care items and this sun block is no exception. Formulated without dyes, mineral oils, parabens, fragrances, and gluten it is perfect for those of us with super sensitive skin. It's also water and sweat resistant so it can hold up to all of your outdoor activities.
5. Secret Active Invisible Solid Antiperspirant and Deodorant
We all know that deodorant is a must have in a daily hygiene routine. But during the summer, when sweat abounds, it becomes even more important. Unfortunately, I start sweating the minute I walk out the door, and within minutes my underarms are drenched. I suffered through this embarrassment and cycled through many deodorants/antiperspirants until I found this gem. I'm not sure what black magic Secret has infused into their Active line of deodorants, but the performance of this product is nothing short of heroic. No matter how hot I get or how sweaty I get anywhere else, my underarms stay cool, dry, and smelling fresh.
Fat Positive Blogs
Blogs are a wonderful source of information. I have found them to be a useful Fat resource, especially when it comes to body positivity and fatshion. It is so helpful to see what clothes look like on bodies that are shaped like ours. It is also helpful to know that there are others out there who have the same life struggles that we have. You might get a different perspective on how to deal with things, based on the experiences of others.
I recently joined a group of plus size bloggers. We are taking one fashion topic a month and doing a blog hop. Our first topic was leggings. We all did a blog about it, linked our blogs, and published them at the same time. It is so great to see the many different ways an item can be worn on a fat person, from smaller plus to super plus.
Here is a link to my blog. In it, you will find the links to all the other blogs.
Here is a list of some fat positive blogs that might help you on your journey:
"In a world darkened by ethnic conflicts that tear nations apart, Canada stands as a model of how people of different cultures can live and work together in peace, prosperity, and mutual respect."
