SSBBW / FA Quote of the Moment

"An SSBBW knows what it is like to NOT be "average". To me, this is extremely important for development of a mature personality. It is a necessity for understanding other people that you truly comprehend what it is like to be "different". Fat women know this. They experience it every day. That fact alone makes them richer people with a mind that is more open than "average", simply because it forces them to view things from a different paradigm than "average"." ~ Mogens (BC, Canada) [FA]

ACCEPTANCE

Self Acceptance and Society/Fat Acceptance

Self acceptance is loving and appreciating yourself even if there are things you'd eventually like to change. Fat acceptance or society acceptance is getting society as a whole to accept that we have the same rights as everyone else and to reduce prejudice within the community.

Things you can do every day to boost your body image:

Celebrating Our Independence in July

This July, Canada celebrates Canada Day on July 1st and our neighbors to the south in the United States celebrates Independence Day on July 4th. In both cases, there's a great love for our country that comes into play and a deep sense of loyalty and pride that goes along with those celebrations. This July, it's also important to celebrate our own independence for ourselves as well!

So what does independence mean to you? For me it simply means having the ability and right to do what makes me happiest, whether it is taking good care of myself through nutrition and exercise or being around other people who lift me up and encourage me to always do my best.

Independence is an amazingly liberating thing, but getting to a place of peace and comfort with your own independence takes hard work and dedication and can sometimes be very scary when you're not used to putting yourself first.

Having a certain level of personal independence means making decisions for your own well-being. What makes you happy? What brings you peace and comfort? What makes you feel joyful and blessed? If there are things holding you back, it's time to find your voice and you exert your right to independence so you can have those necessary things in your life because you have that right.

So as the parades roll by and you gather to party and picnic in honor of your country's independence, think about how you can foster and honor your own independence this July.

Happy Canada Day, Independence Day and happy you!
