SSBBW / FA Quote of the Moment

"One reason that I like BBW's is that I can answer the age old question without getting in an argument. "Does my ass look big in this?" "yesss(drooling)yessss(smiles)yess." ~ Larry [FA]

Self Acceptance and Society/Fat Acceptance

Self acceptance is loving and appreciating yourself even if there are things you'd eventually like to change. Fat acceptance or society acceptance is getting society as a whole to accept that we have the same rights as everyone else and to reduce prejudice within the community.

Celebrating November with Remembrance, Thanks and Gratitude

There are some pretty significant holidays in November that really make us take a good look at ourselves and our ancestors and activate some humble gratitude. Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the United States are observed on November 11th, followed by Thanksgiving Day in the states on November 22nd. These three holidays have the capability to get to the heart of who we really are.

As a member of a three-generation military family-my father, brother and niece served or are currently serving in the military-Remembrance Day and Veterans Day really make me think about the commitment and sacrifices made by all the men and women of our armed forces. The freedoms and security we enjoy today are a direct result of all of their hard work and we salute them!

Less than two weeks after these holidays, many of us are sitting down to a feast of food on Thanksgiving Day in the states. While the holiday is steeped in history and tradition, Thanksgiving is literally a day for giving thanks. I feel so blessed this year-and every year-for my family, friends, health, happiness and so much more. What are you thankful for this year?

For me, it has been a year of re-commitment to my health and wellness and I have worked very hard to gain more information and insight into how and why I became overweight. While I have made steps to gain control of my eating habits and health on many levels, it is most definitely a work in progress. I am thankful that I have vowed not to be a slave to the scale, to practice gratitude daily for the blessings in my life and to learn a little bit more about myself along the way. By not putting too much pressure on myself toward drastic changes and numbers, it makes it a whole lot easier to live in the moment and be ok with who I am.

I hope this November you give thanks for those around you who lift you up and sing your praises, who support and appreciate you. And if you ever feel that you don't have enough support, always remember there are always people who can relate to and understand you…you just need to reach out! Always remember you are your own best advocate and your own best friend. Be thankful and grateful for you-just as you are.

Here's hoping everyone has a November full of remembrance, thanks and gratitude.

There is always something to be thankful for.” –Author Unknown
