SSBBW / FA Quote of the Moment

"I love BBW. I love them with a great and wonderful passion ... not to sound too corny but I like meat on my bones and I love them in lingerie." ~ Eddie [FA]

Self Acceptance and Society/Fat Acceptance

Self acceptance is loving and appreciating yourself even if there are things you'd eventually like to change. Fat acceptance or society acceptance is getting society as a whole to accept that we have the same rights as everyone else and to reduce prejudice within the community.

In Honor of Dads - A Funny Bunch

I recently saw a commercial with the theme of "Dad jokes" and I thought that would be a really great starting point for this month's column about Father's Day. Dads really are the funniest of creatures. My friends and I agree that, whether purposeful or not, some of our greatest and fondest memories of our dads over the course of our childhood have been those moments where they did something unexpectedly silly or comedic.

In the case of my own father, my dad had-and to this day at age 77 still has-a way of doing insanely funny things without even trying. Let me enlighten you with a few prime examples. My dad once was so focused on catching a fly ball in the backyard of our home during a whiffle ball game and kept yelling, "I got it! I got it!" while running backwards to catch it. All I saw was fast motion and then my dad disappear 10 feet straight down into the manmade creek wall that ran alongside our home. "I got it! I got it! -and then poof!-gone! It is still one of the funniest memories I hold of my dad.

He's the kind of guy who stands up in a rowboat to cast a fishing pole and falls overboard. He's the kind of guy who puts the anchor out without first checking to see if it's tied to the boat (yes-the anchor sunk!). He's just, simply put, dad. A no explanation or excuses kind of guy who has always helped me see the hilarious side of life without even trying.

I guess I'm lucky, having grown up with such a crazy father. And I on that note, I guess of all the things I could have gotten from him-ADHD, heart issues, hypertension-I'm thankful that I seem to have acquired his sense of humor, if not his klutziness.

And I know there are a lot of folks out there who grew up with dads who didn't show their emotions or affections much or were strict and distant. There are people who didn't have much in the way of a father figure at all. But somewhere along the line I hope we are all fortunate enough to have witnessed and admired that type of dad-the funny dad.

Here's to all the men out there who put in the time, effort and Dad jokes to make their kids smile. And here's to all the dads out there who have vowed to be the best Dad they can be-to show their children and grandchildren how to show love, affection and respect, how to work hard and play hard and how to love themselves and give back to their communities-and how to appreciate only a Dad can.

Happy Father's Day!
