Self Acceptance and Society/Fat Acceptance
Self acceptance is loving and appreciating yourself even if there are things you'd eventually like to change. Fat acceptance or society acceptance is getting society as a whole to accept that we have the same rights as everyone else and to reduce prejudice within the community.

Extending Love Beyond Valentine's Day
It's great that we get one specific day each year to focus on Valentine's Day, but in reality, love is about so much more than focusing on love one day a year. Love is an everyday occurrence and should be treated with as much reverence and appreciation every moment we are lucky to have it in our lives.
For the lovelorn like myself, I have found "the L word" painstakingly elusive. At 51, I sometimes wonder if Cupid somehow took me off her personal GPS system. Even so, I've embraced Valentine's Day as a "love myself and others" day.
Every Valentine's Day, I think about who I can make happy. I choose one or even a handful of people who might not otherwise have a "Valentine" so to speak and hand out flowers, candy or little tokens of happiness along my path. These folks may be strangers or co-workers, family or friends. Whoever is in my path who looks like they could use a little random act of Valentine's Day kindness-well, they get a little love.
When my elderly grandmother was alive, she used to receive flowers and chocolates from me every year as a token of love and appreciation. She would always blush and say I shouldn't have spent my money on her, but I always knew how much it meant to her to be loved and singled out on this most loving day of the year.
Since her passing in 2001, I have tried very hard to keep the "I don't have a date so what do I do on Valentine's Day?" mission alive by making someone else happy-if not myself!
And please-don't forget yourself! You are the most wonderful, beautiful and important person in your life and the love and attention you give yourself is as important as that which can be bestowed upon you by someone else. So save a few flowers and a few chocolates for yourself, too.
Valentine's Day is a day full of love and appreciation but let's be sure to keep that love and appreciation for ourselves and others going as much as we possibly can every day throughout the year.
Be your own Valentine and give someone else a little love on Valentines' Day as well.
